Vangelis Lantavos

Architect

 

He studied Architecture at South Bank University of London (ΒΑ Hons Arch., PGDip.Arch., RIBA), under the tutelage of the renowned architect

David Adjaye, the academic Peter Allison and the architecture scholar and writer Jeremy Melvin. He wrote dissertation, ‘Alvar Aalto: Nature embodied in Architecture’.

After returning to Greece, works in several architectural offices in Athens in a wide range of projects, which varied from residential projects to large hospitality schemes.

In November of 2002, he founds with the interior designer Maria Lantavos the multi-disciplinary design practice Lantavos Projects.

In 2010, together with his colleague, the architect Dionysis Gonatas, are designing an exhibition on the young generation of British architects under the title 'New approaches in British Architecture'. Supported by the British Council in Athens and the Hellenic Institute of Architecture, the exhibition would also be complemented by lectures, within the frame of cultural exchanges, for the Olympic Games of London. After two years of preparations, the event was canceled due to the freezing of funding,

caused by the debt crisis in Greece.

Collaborator of the workshop “Letter from London. Greek students and architects in the United Kingdom 1955-2015”, organized by “ek” magazine architectural editions and the Hellenic Institute of Architecture and curator with Dr. Panayotis Tsakopoulos of the book issued under the thematic of the workshop.

He is a registered member of the ΤΕΕ (Technical Chamber of Greece) since 2001, Chartered Member of the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) since 2009, member of SADAS-PEA (Hellenic Union of Architects) since 2010 and member of EIA (Hellenic Institute of Architecture) since 2013.

Interior designer

 

After finishing high school, she attends for two years, the drawing classes in the schools of the artists, D. Fotou and L. Martzoukou, as she prepares for the School of Fine Arts. During the second year, while still attending the drawing classes, her interest turns to the interior design, which becomes her professional target. In September 1995, she enrolls at the first year in the Athenian Artistic and Technological Group-AKTO in the department of Interior Design. In January 1998, while still studying, she works for 6 months at the office of the renowned Greek architect Alexandros Tombazis. In June of the same year, she graduates and receives the BA Degree in Interior Design from Middlesex University in collaboration with AKTO School. Her written thesis was entitled ‘Trends and Applications of Light’, which was presented in a wide audience, and considered among the best of the year.

The next year she works at AKTO School as an assistant in the classes of her former tutor, the architect Marinos Sorilos. 

Maria is co-founder and principal at the architectural practice Lantavos Projects.
